Back to Basics Tutoring
Would you like to assist a student with his/her school work, maybe increase his interest in the subject, help a student to be more confident in completing school assignments and perhaps see an improvement in his/her grades? Do you have at least one hour free on Tuesdays from 2:30 to 7:00 p.m. and/or Thursdays from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m.? The Back to Basics Tutoring, a mission of the Church of the Palms, which begins in the Campus Center on Tuesday, September 28, provides these opportunities as well as non-tutoring jobs. Over one hundred students have registered and requested assistance with a variety of subjects ranging from elementary level reading, spelling, math and writing to high school subjects such as algebra, geometry, pre-calculus, physics, chemistry, biology, English, Spanish, American history, American civics, government, economics and study skills. Tutors are especially needed for Tuesday evening sessions. Stop by the tutoring table under the Fellowship Tree or contact Ruby Dailey, Tutoring Director, 922-3294 to volunteer or for more information.

Student and Family Service Project
In student ministry, we are teaming up with the Isaiah 58 Project as we seek to serve in our community. The project offers three different outreach opportunities every month for middle and high school students (and their families) to experience the blessing of service. Each project is done in conjunction with local outreaches and organizations. The projects happen on the first three Saturdays of every month. You may participate any time, but the next project for student ministry is scheduled for Saturday, October 9. We will be preparing and serving hot dogs for the homeless. Mark your calendar and contact Derek Thompson, 924-1323 to sign up.

Important Message
Do you have a few hours a week you could invest in an important, enjoyable activity? We have an excellent volunteer opportunity open in our Early Childhood Center for part-time receptionists. Thursday is the preferable, but other times are available too. We’re looking for friendly people who can endure the happy smiles of children, the gratitude of staff, and the joy of serving in an important way. Contact ECC Director Lorrie Young, 921-7892, and she’ll be glad to help you learn more!

Are You a Sewing Angel?
Are you an accomplished seamstress or maybe just a pretty good mender? If “sew,” why not use your fabulous talent to help the children in the Early Childhood program sleep in comfort at nap time. We are looking for a “sewing angel” to mend sheets. So many of our congregation have extraordinary sewing skills and that, mixed with a little time is just what we need. Barbara Walters once stated, “To feel valued, to know, even if only once in awhile, that you do a job well is an absolutely marvelous feeling.” Let us help you achieve that marvelous feeling. For more information contact Lorrie Young or Carol Stephens, 921-7892.

Sanctuary
Flower Sponsorship

You are invited to select your special Sunday to designate Sanctuary flowers in memory of a loved one, in honor of a special person or event, or just in thanksgiving to God. Reservations for your 2011 date sponsorships can also be made at any time. Contact Betsy Morris, 924-1323 and send a separate check of $40.00 payable to “Church of the Palms” and marked “for flowers” to her attention in the church office. After worship, your gift continues as the Sanctuary flowers become part of the Visitation Ministry. Each week a Deacon personally delivers them to our members who are hospitalized or shut in. Your gift of flower sponsorship is a blessing in our worship and reaches beyond to show God’s love.

Time Tithers at Church of the Palms
Time Tithers are persons who have made a private and personal covenant with God, promising him that they will, on average, devote at least one-tenth of their discretionary time to studying his Word and doing his work. We strive to use our God-given gifts in service to others. Projects we do for members of our church family include the installation of grab bars (#1 job request), basic plumbing, Comcast box installations and minor home repairs. If you know of anyone who needs our helping hands or if you are interested in joining our Time Tithing team, please contact Time Tithers, 927-8585 or email TimeTithers@aol.com.
