BAPTISMS

“Through baptism we enter the covenant God has established. Within this covenant God gives us new life, guards us from evil, and nurtures us in love. In embracing that covenant, we choose whom we will serve, by turning from evil and turning to Jesus Christ.”
– Book of Common Worship

NEEDED INFO:

You will be asked these questions to best assist you when you call. You may want to review these questions in advance
  • Preferred date(s) for Baptism
  • Preferred service (we have both traditional and contemporary worship)
  • Your preferred Pastor to officiate (if relevant)
  • The full name, birthdate and birth place of the child to be baptized
  • The names of the parents
  • The approximate number of people expected to attend the service.

Once the date is confirmed, Cathie will help you schedule a meeting with
the Pastor and the Director of Children Ministries.

Your Meeting with the Pastor and the Director of Children’s Ministries:

  • Generally, this meeting will take less than an hour. This is a time when the family, Pastor and Children’s Ministry Director get to know one another.
  • In preparation we’ll review what’ll take place on the day of the Baptism, including information on the number of family and friends who plan to attend the service; and if you have chosen “Godparents” or “Sponsors”, their names.
  • The Pastor will review with you the questions you’ll be asked at the Baptism.

What to expect on the Day of Baptism?

  • Please arrive at the church 20 minutes before the start of the service.
  • The front-right pews closest to the Baptismal Font will be reserved for you and any friends and family that may be attending.
  • Our sanctuary coordinator, Yoko Spivey will be on hand to answer any questions you may have or any accommodations you may need.
  • Please let your guests know that the prelude music starts 10 minutes before the hour.
  • Any of our ushers can assist you with special seating needs.
  • There is no particular dress code for those attending a baptism. White baptismal gowns are often used for infants, but whatever your feel is comfortable for your child is appropriate.
  • You can feed your baby in the pew, or use the comfortable sofa in the bridal parlor, which offers a more private setting. An usher can point you in the right direction.

Babies cry and toddlers fuss and both are expected!
Relax in the knowledge that you’re welcome here just as you are, and that we’re happy you’re here.

This is the start of an amazing journey of faith for your child, and a special day for you and all of your friends and family. Your family at Church of the Palms is glad to share in this with you!
