Music Ministry

Chancel Choir

The Chancel Choir sings during our two Sunday morning traditional services. This group of talented singers delights in the sharing of their gifts with the congregation and works hard to offer a variety of traditional anthems, spirituals, commissioned pieces, and classic choral works.

Additionally, the choir performs major choral works (such as Dan Forrest’s Te Deum and Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem) during special Sunday services that feature music as the center of worship.

The full Chancel Choir season runs from August through May, with the Summer Choir performing every two weeks in June and July. The choir rehearses weekly during the regular season at 7:15 pm on Wednesday nights in the Music Building.

Jubilee Handbell Choir

The Jubilee Handbell Choir performs monthly at our traditional Sunday services throughout the fall and spring. They play a variety of traditional bell music using handbells and chimes, often accompanied by piano, flute, or other instrumentalists.

Bell choir members range in experience from rookies to long-time ringers. If you’ve previously played handbells or always wanted to try, we welcome new ringers!

Cantori Choir

The Cantori Choir is an outreach program that performs during the holiday season for residents of local retirement and assisted living communities. The Cantori Choir’s forty-five minute musical program typically consists of nine musical selections and a Christmas caroling opportunity for residents. Singers are primarily drawn from the Chancel Choir and are supported by a pianist from Church of the Palms.

Cantori singers rehearse weekly during late October and November and perform twice a week during the first three weeks of December.

Noontime Concert Series

The music ministry sponsors a noontime concert series. Following a soup and salad lunch, visiting musicians share a variety of music with our audience. Recent performances include the Prometheus Duo, a pair of talented violinists; the principal cellist from the local orchestra; and the principal flutist and bassoonist, also from the local orchestra.

Sounds of Glory Orchestra

The Church of the Palms Orchestra, directed by Yuri and Linda Vasilaki, has two important missions: to share their love of music with each other and our church community, and to serve as mentors to beginning students who are learning to play an instrument. Orchestra members range in age from 12 to 95 and include a combination of professionals and beginners.

The orchestra, also known as the Sounds of Glory Orchestra, rehearses weekly and performs in the community on a regular basis. They mentor students as young as 3 years old through college age, and they assist at rehearsals and concerts at church, in schools, in retirement homes, and at special events.

Palms Voices Children’s Choir

We are excited to launch Palms Voices Children’s Choir for children in Grades K–5!

Rehearsing every Sunday in the Education Building, Palms Voices offers a joyful and nurturing environment where children will grow in faith, discover the joy of music, and build lasting friendships. Through singing, worship, creative activities, and music education, children will develop their musical gifts while learning to praise God and lead in worship.

Other Music Outreach Programs

The Church of the Palms music ministry supports and has relationships with a variety of other arts organizations, including Key Chorale, Sarasota Choral Society, Sarasota Institute of Lifetime Learning, and Sarasota Music Conservatory.
